Allergy Testing

The First Step to Relief

Allergy Testing

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, allergies affect more than 50 million people living in the USA. Many people suffering from asthma and allergies don’t know that their condition can be serious, or that it is considered a disease. At Allergy and Asthma Care of Wylie, we provide testing to determine which particular substances are keeping you from enjoying life to its fullest.

Stay Safe

Food Allergy Testing

During your consultation with Dr. Angela, she will go over your medical history, ask about any symptoms, and listen to your needs. Depending on your symptoms, food allergy testing can involve skin prick tests, blood tests, or an elimination diet. Your reactions to these tests will help Dr. Angela determine which foods cause problems for you, and what kind of treatment plan will fit best with your needs.

Identify Irritants

Allergy Skin Testing

Prick and puncture allergy skin testing is the most common method used to identify seasonal or household allergies. These diagnostic tests are minimally invasive and typically produce quick results so you can work with Dr. Angela immediately on personalized treatment tailored to your needs. During the prick/puncture test, the surface of your skin is pricked and a diluted allergen is applied. After about 15 minutes, the test results will tell Dr. Angela which allergens your skin is affected by and to what degree.

Non-Invasive

Patch Testing

This form of allergy testing is simple and painless, and no needles are involved. Patch testing can also detect delayed allergic reactions, which often take several days to develop. During this test, allergens are applied to patches, which are then held in place on your body using hypoallergenic tape. Patch testing is effective because this method can expose your skin to a wide range of substances to get to the bottom of your symptoms and discomfort

Get Peace of Mind

Penicillin & Drug Allergy Evaluation

Allergy to penicillin and related antibiotics is the most commonly reported drug allergy in the United States. Since penicillin is a very effective antibiotic medicine used to treat many infections, it is important to know whether you are allergic to this common drug. At Allergy and Asthma Care of Wylie, we offer Penicillin skin testing because we have our patients’ best interest at heart. The test is simple and performed in our office.  The entire diagnostic process usually takes just a few hours. Once you have the results, you’ll gain peace of mind for a lifetime.

Efficient and Accurate

Venom Allergy Testing

Dr. Angela uses skin tests to determine whether a patient has a venom allergy. If your skin test isn’t conclusive and Dr. Angela thinks further confirmation is necessary, she may suggest a blood test.

Test for Common Allergies

Urticaria / Angioedema Evaluation

Urticaria (more commonly known as hives) is a common allergic reaction.  However in most cases, urticaria is not actually related to an allergic exposure.  Dr. Angela can take time to listen to your concerns and symptoms and develop a plan to identify possible triggers and test appropriately.  From there, she will recommend a plan to manage and treat your diagnosis to get you relief.  Hives often occur in conjunction with angioedema (the swelling of tissue beneath the surface of the skin). Since angioedema can keep you from breathing if your tongue or throat swell enough, finding the cause of your allergy offers more than just relief— it can potentially save your life.
